(Click for Larger View)

Imperialis is a nation builder, taking place in a (roughly) historically-accurate Earth, during the Early Modern Period (circa 1700-1800). Players take control of contemporary nations, and set out to ensure their nation's supremacy in the world through military force, diplomacy, espionage, and economics. The game will be heavily focused on exploration, economics, politics, religion, the founding of colonies, and ultimately, conquest.

Due to the small playerbase, I'm only allowing players to take control of major factions.

Nice game bro. I'm not clear whats going on with my player-base, I'm going to wait one or two more days, then figure out if people who haven't posted in the thread are still in the game or what exactly is going on, I didn't mean to just drop like that.

BEGIN TURN 1

Imperialis (Turn 9: Spring, Anno Domini 1704) S2cu4Qa
(Click for Larger View)

On Turns and Actions:

Each player will be able to make 5 actions during Spring turns, and 4 actions during Autumn turns.

All actions must be submitted in list format to me via Private Message. In addition, a post must be made in the thread containing the name of your nation, and the dice rolls for your actions. You're allowed to list your actions within your thread post, though they must still be submitted to me via PM. Standard actions are carried out using d100 dice rolls. The commands for dice rolls are:
Code:
[roll=d100]5[/roll]
or
Code:
[roll=d100]4[/roll]
(note: add quotation marks (" ") around d100 to ensure that the dice rolls work properly)

On Espionage and Covert Actions:

Players are allowed to make covert actions throughout the course of the game.
To make a covert action, you must specify (within your actions PM) which actions are covert. If you choose to post actions publicly in the thread, and are making any covert actions, you're allowed to list a different action in your thread post than the covert action you submit to me via PM. The action submitted via PM will be considered as the action you are attempting to make, with the posted action being considered as the action you are attempting to disguise it as.
Whether or not your covert actions are detected will mostly be a direct result of your dice roll, though there may be contextual modifiers.

Recent Developments:

  • Saxon flute-maker Johann Cristoph Denner develops the clarinet, as a modification of the chalumeau.
  • Venetian craftsman Bartolomeo Cristofori constructs the first known piano, in Tuscany, as part of his work for Prince Ferdinando de Medici.
  • The Prussian Academy of Sciences is founded with Gottfried Leibniz as president.
  • Much of Protestant Western Europe adopts the Gregorian calendar.
  • Russia begins numbering its calendar from the birth of Christ (Anno Domini) instead of since the Creation (Anno Mundi).
  • An English translation of the novel Don Quixote, "translated from the original by many hands and published by Peter Motteux", begins publication in London.
  • Carlos II, the current Habsburg ruler in Spain, designates Philip of Anjou, a grandson of Louis XIV, as the successor to the Spanish throne. Philip of Anjou inheriting Spain and its possessions would end Habsburg rule in Spain, and create a dynastic union between Spain and France, and drastically tip the balance of power in Europe in favor of France.
  • Joseph I, Holy Roman Emperor and Archduke of Austria, rejects the designation of Philip of Anjou to succeed Carlos II in Spain, and nominates a Habsburg candidate, Charles III, to inherit Spain and its possessions. Charles III inheriting Spain and its possessions would continue Habsburg rule in Spain, and maintain the dynastic union between Spain and Austria, and solidify the balance of power in Europe in favor of Austria.

Nation: The Dutch Republic.
Muttonchopper carried out 5 launched of one d100 :

As a nation of trade and commerce, the Dutch Republic is in the business of becoming a wealthy nation, with a wealthy empire. Weather though commerce, scientific excellence, religious freedoms or diplomatic success, the Dutch Republic is competing.

[1] Send an ambassador/diplomat to the Habsburg ruler of Spain.
[2] Send an ambassador/diplomat to the Habsburg ruler of Austria.
[3] Promote sciences throughout the empire. Various things like more universities, sending scientists to the colonies, ect.
[4] Find improvements for the slave trade. Basically, how to wring more profit from the trans-atlantic slave trade.
[5] Provide incentives for both the VOC (Dutch East India company) and the WIC (Dutch West India company) to find new lands, tradeports or new sources of money making goods (anything from slavery to spices, and everything in between)

The Grand Mughal Babur Spahic I Chikan declares hereby that all of India will be rightful part of the Mughal Empire, he holds this claim as self evident in the face of his father's claims and those of his father before him.

White Death carried out 5 launched of one d100 :
9 , 2 , 6 , 34 , 26

[1&2] The Grand Mughal demands that an Army shall be fielded, grander than all before so he may conquer what is rightfully his.
[3] The Grand Mughal demands that Intellectuals shall venture into the West to learn about new technologies and bring said knoweldge forth to the Mughal and the people of his Empire.
[4] The Grand Mughal demands the construction of a grand Temple to serve as both a Mosque and Holy Site for the Hindus as only together they will achieve true greatness.
[5] The Grand Mughal demands that an envoy shall be sent to the noble Emperor of the Chinese, for he has great respect for an Empire even older than his own and so rich in tradition.

As a nation of Military Tradition, Prussia shall need to take an iron grip and centralize her economic and military power throughout the greater Germania.

[1] Send an ambassador/diplomat to the Habsburg ruler of Austria.
[2] Officially fund the Prussian Academy of Science and sponsor Leibniz
[3] Pursue, through the Academy, major economic-political reforms to strengthen the Prussian market and government finances through a more balanced and efficient industry.
[4] Send ambassadors to our neighboring German duchies
[5] Start the construction of the Prussian Military Academy for a more competent military.

Imperialis (Turn 9: Spring, Anno Domini 1704) Empty Re: Imperialis (Turn 9: Spring, Anno Domini 1704)

Post by White Death Fri Oct 10, 2014 7:08 am

Only the political action got through huh? Well sooo much for thatttah.

The Mughal Empire has apparently been idle for all this time. Too bad, but this winter will become a fresh start for this grand Empire none the less.

[1] It is time to raise a grand army for the Mughal Empire. For real this time.

[2] Further raising will become necessary.

[3] Come up with a mandatory conscription period. The men of the Mughal Empire shall be ready to be drafted in the face of war.

[4] Chickens, chickens and delicious curry.

The Actions for the Dutch Republic.
Muttonchopper carried out 4 launched of one d100 :
47 , 3 , 72 , 88

1) Train militia's in the colonies. Obviously, disorder and unrest are terrible for the local people, the local governance and profit. To that end we shall hit multiple birds with one stone, as it were. We take the unruly populous and teach them the proper way of doing things.
2) Send orders to representatives abroad.
3) Offer pardons to any and all pirates who roam the Caribbean, provided that they become loyal Dutch citizens. Experienced sailors are hard to come by, most of all those who know the waters like the back of their hands.
3) Start construction of the Michiel de Ruyter Naval Accademy. In the entire republic we need capable naval captains and officers.

One thing to consider is that its hard to pick out whose actions belong to who. Perhaps titling them would be appropriate?

NOTICE: DO NOT SEND TURN REPORTS TO MY E-MAIL ACCOUNT. I WILL ONLY ACCEPT TURN REPORTS SENT TO MY FORUM INBOX. ANY TURN REPORTS NOT SENT TO MY FORUM INBOX WILL BE SKIPPED. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Notice: I can calculate your turn results, but I can't read your mind. If you describe your actions clearly and thoroughly, I'll be much more likely to interpret them in a way that will benefit you.

Recent Developments:

  • The War of the Spanish Succession begins. It is an international retaliation to Louis XIV’s acceptance in 1700 of the Spanish crown on behalf of his grandson Philip of Anjou, who became Philip V, first Bourbon king of Spain. Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor, forms the Grand Alliance with Great Britain, the Dutch Republic, Denmark, Portugal, Savoy, and Prussia. Louis XIV allies France with Spain and Bavaria.
  • The Qing Dynasty dispatches 20 battalions of Manchurian infantry to consolidate Chinese control over Tibet. The region is effectively annexed following a decisive Qing victory against the Tibetan garrison at Dartsedo.
  • After being convicted of multiple counts of piracy, and the murder of William Moore, Captain William Kidd is executed in London.
  • Marsh's Library in Dublin is established by Narcissus Marsh as the first public library in Ireland with refugee French Huguenot scholar Élie Bouhéreau as its first librarian.
  • Venetian physician Giacomo Pylarini inoculates the children of the English ambassador to Istanbul with smallpox, in hopes of preventing more serious smallpox sickness when the children are older, thus becoming the first immunologist.
  • Joseph Sauveur coins the French word acoustique, from which the English word acoustics is derived.
  • In Japan, the daimyo Asano Naganori is ordered to commit ritual suicide. A group of 47 samurai of his service begin planning to avenge his death.
  • English agriculturalist Jethro Tull invents a drill for planting seeds in well-spaced rows at specific depths.
  • The Philharmonic Society is established in Ljubljana, in Austria.
  • Mecklenburg-Strelitz is created as a north German duchy.
  • Chogyar Namgyal establishes the Dubdi Monastery at Yuksom, in Sikkim.
  • With Portuguese colonial presence having been completely driven out of Kenya, the local leadership agrees to accept the protection of the Yarubid Dynasty of Oman, and sign a treaty with Omani representatives officially designating Kenya as a protectorate state of Oman.
  • A Swedish naval force consisting of one fifth-rate and two sixth-rate warships engage in combat with a Danish naval force of equal size and strength in the Baltic Sea, approximately 100 kilometers east of the Danish isle of Zealand. The battle culminates in a decisive Swedish victory, with minimal casualties inflicted upon the Swedish force.
  • A large Swedish force consisting of six regiments of Swedish cavalry, two regiments of line infantry, and four demi-cannons surround the Norwegian capital at Kristiania and begin siege actions.
  • Dutch garrisons at Trinidad, Tobago, and Curacao each recruit an additional battalion of militia.
  • A Dutch agent is captured and executed by Spanish bannermen in Flanders after an attempt to incite unrest and anti-Spanish sentiment within the local populace.
  • Following a legislative action by the Dutch Republic offering pardons to pirates, rebels, and other political enemies of the Spanish and French, Spanish pirate colonies in the Canary Islands and the Chagos Archipelago accept the Dutch offer, officially becoming protectorates of the Republic.
  • Dutch architects begin complete renovations of the naval academy at Rotterdam, in Holland. The new academy will be dedicated to the late Dutch admiral Michiel de Ruyter.
  • The Great Peace of Montreal is signed, ending 100 years of war between the Iroquois Confederacy and the French-allied Huron Nations. The treaty assured the Iroquois, formerly allied with the English, would be neutral if France and England were to ever resume hostilities.
  • Prussian military theorists and craftsmen begin trials of experimental breech-loading firearms. Many of the initial prototypes are determined to be unusable, and the few functioning models produced have proven to be occasionally less reliable than the latest Prussian muskets.
  • Negotiations between Prussian and Bavarian officials reach stalemate following official declaration of the War of the Spanish Succession, and the subsequent alliance between France and Bavaria to oppose Austrian interests in Spain.
  • Prussian architects begin construction of small wagonways linking towns along the borders of Hanover and Brandenburg.
  • An Austrian spy is caught attempting to acquire classified state secrets in Lithuania, and is executed by Polish Commonwealth officials.
  • Emperor Aurangzeb orders a massive conscription across Mughal-controlled India. Several battalions of archers, sword infantry, and lancer cavalry are added to the Mughal army.
  • Signs of an economic crisis arise in the Mughal Empire, with taxes no longer able to compensate for enormous army upkeep costs, a massive income disparity between the nobility and the common populace, and extremely inefficient management by Mughal treasury ministers.
  • Following the recent mass-conscription by the Mughal Empire, workers in Hyderabad officially begin a wide-scale general strike, demanding improvements in living conditions and representation at the higher levels of government, and threaten to launch an armed rebellion if the demands are not met.

[3] Provide incentives for Dutch Guiana, Dutch South Africa, Dutch Ceylon to expand their sphere of influence.
[4] Start production of a grand Dutch armada. The seas shall be Dutch.

[1] With our new military academy and military thinking, send word and start the recruitment of more officers and veterans to lead the army
[2] Mobilize immediately. We'll need to ensure that our standing in the great alliance can be upheld by appropriate and unwavering force
[3] Invest in supplies, logistics, and military equipment. For an army to be functional, it must be supplied.
[4] Send our diplomats to our dutch neighbors to the north, requesting promises mutual military cooperation and aid in this conflict, as well as future economic trade.
[5] Continue the research and development of the new rifles, as well as finding jaegers and expert marksmen to provide input as well training themselves in their use as skirmishers.
